The Outlander by Diana Gabaldon is a mix various genres, published in 1991 by the name of Cross Stitch in the United Kingdom. It is the first in the multi genre series and focuses on the time of the Second World War. A nurse names Claire Randall who has traveled through time and is now in the 18th century in Scotland, falls in love with a man names Jamie Fraser. It contains historical fiction and also a fine touch of science fiction. The year is 1946, Claire and her husband Frank take a trip to Inverness in Scotland and strange events occur once they arrive and get busy, Claire hears a strange noise near a throng of stones and faints while hearing it; when she wakes she sees her husband’s ancestor, Captain Jack Randall and before the captain takes her into custody he is knocked unconscious and is taken by a stranger. Claire eventually realizes that she is now lost in the past.
