Review:
This novel had with a certain connectedness, I felt as if I was inside it, submerged into a story that resembled not only my own but of each and every one of us. We all have our stories and our journeys that we have to take no matter what, a certain path, a calling; this novel is a journey of a young woman for truth. Her search and how she felt when she found out, no matter how hideous the truth had been, she went for it and completed herself, a part that had been missing was found. This is author Jodi Picoult at her highest powers, published in 2015.
Jenna Metcalf had thought of her mother every day, it had been more than a decade. She disappeared one day out of a sudden tragic event. She had been a scientist, Alice was her name and to her daughter the only thing that mattered was finding her. In Alice’s journals she had written about the grief of animals; she felt for other things, she also wrote about the animals she had loved and among these journals Jenna looked for the clues of her whereabouts, she had been completely determined that she would find her and denied that her mother left her. The most interesting parts of the novels are the two very unlikely allies that Jenna finds in her search, Serenity Jones who’s famous for finding missing people and the second a private detective named Virgil Stanhope who has a link of a dead friend he is trying find the truth of. They work out together to try and find what happened to Alice. What they find makes the situation even harder, they have come far but there is no going back now.
